Children's Activities 2010

The children’s area specializes in hands-on activities, from craft projects to touching and holding snakes and other reptiles. There will be mini-concerts by favorite children’s performer Hans Mayer as well as Mustard’s Retreat. The Talespinners will weave their magic through stories, and the amazing Paul Halter is back with Juggle Struggle! See bottom of this page for schedule of special acts.

Paul Halter is back by popular demand. His unique performance combines top-notch juggling, distinctive comedy and whimsical poetry. His act features a wide variety of amazing feats—some serious and some silly, some difficult and some dangerously silly. Collectively they are uncommonly entertaining!

The Coulee Region Herpetological Society, reptile hobbyists and breeders, will be on hand to introduce adults and children to some of their snakes, turtles, lizards and amphibians. They’ll tell about these fascinating animals and offer opportunities to touch and hold some of them.  (Sunday 1:00-3:00).

Three Rivers Waldorf School (Saturday only) is located in the historic Lower North Side and Depot Neighborhood where the Mississippi, Black and La Crosse Rivers converge amidst scenic bluffs, prairies and wetlands. The school is a member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America.

Myrick Hixon Eco Park will have displays and activities geared to kids. They’ve been educating about the environment since 1983.  Their vision is to achieve community understanding of, and respect for nature, and to protect the environment for future generations.

Bluff Country Talespinners is a local storytelling guild that originated 11 years ago to promote storytelling. Membership ranges from beginning storytellers to professionals. Members tell a variety of stories for all ages and perform at festivals, schools, libraries, symposiums, clubs and organizations.

Hans Mayer plays music for kids and adults. He is a performer with the rare ability to connect with kids by seeing everyday life through their eyes.  Hans has that special something that makes everyone within earshot want to get up and move, laugh and sing along.  You’ll be humming his infectious melodies for days.

Everything Mustard's Retreat does is aimed at pleasing, moving and engaging their audience. They’ll tell tall tales (some spooky!) and offer treasures from America's vast traditional song bag.  Kids and grownups alike will enjoy these talented musicians who have been performing together for 35 years.
