Nancy uses wool fiber because of its durability and richness of color. Her rugs are woven on an antique solid oak 1922 rug loom. ”I believe the functional items in our daily lives should be works of art.” Excellent quality and unique design combine with durability to create fully washable functional art pieces. Nancy also creates hand dyed silk scarves and cotton clothing for adults and children.

Many intricate cross-stitched and appliqué-designs complement purses, billfolds, potholders, story cloths, and cell phone holders. In a fast-moving world, this time-consuming Hmong art form still graces the many items created by Kaojia. She also makes sand animals for children to enjoy.

Lori is an award winning fiber artist. She has been weaving for over 40 years and has focused on rugs for 22. Her rugs, woven from a variety of recycled materials, are designed to combine beauty for the eye with comfort for the feet. She has taught felt making to hundreds of school children. Lori finds her greatest joy and inspiration from color exploration.

Many hours of work go into each hand-sewn piece. Hmong stitchery is known for reverse appliqué and tiny cross-stitch. Also famous are the colorful embroidered story cloths depicting historical events and cultural lore.

Wood

Coulee Region Wood Turners
The Coulee Region Wood Turners have been in existence since 2000 and have over 70 members from the tri-state region. Together they have fun teaching and turning wood. They also participate in the Empty Bowls Project benefiting area food pantries. Anyone is welcomed to attend their monthly meetings, check their website www.crwoodturner.com for times and places.

The majority of Greg’s work is “functional” wooden bowls. By making functional items, he can showcase wood’s “tactility” as well as its beauty. All of the wood Greg uses is reclaimed and recycled; trees that have been cut down from construction sites, storm damage, or have gotten too big for their locations.

Cindy’s love of gemstones began during her childhood while hunting for agates and thompsonites on Lake Superior’s north shore. Cindy also makes her own lampworked beads with Italian glass and enhances them with 22K gold and fine silver leaf, dichroic glass and encasing. Nancy’s main medium, sea glass, is made from broken bottles, jars, and windows which have been tumbling in the ocean for many years and shaped by sand, tide, water, and weather. Nancy uses sea glass, freshwater pearls, copper and sterling wire to create unique earrings, pendants, bracelets, and necklaces.

Mary Denzer of Seven Bridges Pottery has been making functional, wheel-thrown and hand built stoneware and porcelain pottery for more than 35 years. Her pottery- mugs, tumblers, soup bowls, casseroles, colanders, pie plates, pitchers, pasta bowls, teapots-are beautiful and comfortable for everyday use. Her designs are inspired from the woods in which her pottery studio is located. You will find Seven Bridges Pottery in a southeastern Minnesota valley with a spring fed creek.
